Approximately $1.5 million has been allocated for the employment of a consultant whose function will be to help prepare parliamentary manuals for government agencies.
During the consideration of the estimates for her ministry by the Committee of Supply on Wednesday, Minister of Parliamentary Affairs and Governance Gail Teixeira said that it has been found that persons in the various ministries and government agencies have a limited understanding about parliamentary processes.
As a result, she said, a decision was taken to prepare a parliamentary manual, which will help persons to understand how bills and other matters are dealt with in parliament. She noted that this manual will be slightly different from the ones the Clerk of the National Assembly will be drafting for Members of Parliament (MPs).
She stated that the manual will be made available to all Regional Democratic Councils, Neighbourhood Democratic Councils and other relevant agencies.
“So $1.5 million is to employ someone to assist us is preparing the manual and have that done and available before the end of the year,” she said.
