A man is accused of stealing jewellery from another while he was parked and checking damage caused by a vehicular accident.
Cheddi Bacchus, 43, of Lot 28 Norton Street, Lodge was on Wednesday arraigned before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan in Georgetown on robbery charge.
The charge states that on February 24, at Norton Street and Cemetery Road, he robbed Jameer Ramoo of a gold chain valued $140,000 and four gold bangles, valued $630,000.
He pleaded not guilty.
According to the police prosecutor, on the day in question, Ramoo was involved in a motor vehicle accident. Upon exiting his vehicle to inspect the damage, he was allegedly approached by the accused and another. The accused allegedly snatched the chain while his accomplice allegedly snatched the bangles before escaping.
The court was also told that the accused was positively identified by Ramoo to the police as the person who committed the robbery.
Bacchus was placed on $20,000 bail with the condition that he reports to the East La Penitence Police Station every Friday at 8am. He will make his next court appearance on March 10th.
