Arch rivals, Albion Cricket Club and Rose Hall Town Namilco Thunderbolt Flour will lock horns today in the long-awaited Berbice Cricket Board (BCB) Elizabeth Styles Under-21 tournament.
The two dominant teams will meet at Area H Ground with the first ball bowling off from 09.300 hours. The match is expected to be a nail-biting encounter as several top youth players will be on show.
According to Simon Naidu, Public Relations Officer of the BCB, “The tournament started in 2019 and the final was set for March, 2020 but the start of the Covid-19 pandemic forced the organisers to push it back.”
He added, “After obtaining the permission of the sponsor, the new date and venue were decided in consultation with the local representative.”
Rose Hall Town Namilco Thunderbolt will be without their captain Kevin Sinclair, who is on international duty with the West Indies, but the leadership of the side is in good hands with West Indies Under-19 batsman, Kevlon Anderson leading the side.
Anderson will have the support of experienced campaigners, Keith Simpson, Sylus Tyndall, Junior Sinclair, Mahendra Gopilall, Jeremy Sandia, Jonathan Rampersaud, Chanderpaul Govindan and Tyrese Sealey.
Albion will be led by former national youth player Adrian Sukwah and, among the other players expected to play are Sarwan Chaitnarine, Mahendra Chaitnarine, Gourav Ramesh, Kelvin Umroa, Antonio Fredericks and Jeetendra Outar.
BCB president Hilbert Foster said that the BCB has eight finals to play off from the suspended 2019/2020 season and is seeking to play them off by the end of April as the board has plans to host about 35 different tournaments in its 2021 season.
The 2021 under 21 tournament will start shortly after the current final and will be played on a knockout format with about 20 teams.
