The police are on the hunt for two bandits who allegedly attacked the proprietor of an East Coast Demerara (ECD) supermarket and robbed him of $500,000 cash.
The attack took place around 2am yesterday.
According to a police statement, enquiries revealed that Awei Huo Die, 39, a Chinese national, had just returned home.
Awei operates AWEI Supermarket, which is situated on the Vryheid’s Lust, ECD Public Road.
Shortly after arriving home, the police said Awei saw two men passing on the road. The men allegedly approached him and launched an attack, during which he was relieved of the cash and his $80,000cellular phone.
Awei suffered minor injuries during the incident.
The bandits made good their escape.
