A donation and grant policy was yesterday adopted by the Georgetown Mayor and City Council following a majority vote in favour.
Following a statutory meeting, Mayor Ubraj Narine, in an invited comment to the media, said that there were no policies on donations when he assumed office. However, he said the move is intended to serve as guide for the receipt and giving of money.
In brief, he explained that there will be rules to follow as he highlighted the procedure necessary when applying.
Narine added that the procedure must follow accountability and transparency for monies received.
Meanwhile, the mayor mentioned plans to institute a scholarship policy which he said will enhance the service of the council and better its employees.
He explained that the policy will provide a structure for eligibility, which he said has been absent.
Narine stated that selection will be based on years of service and other documented requirements.
Additionally, he disclosed that employees who do not wish to return to serve the council will be required to repay the value of the scholarship. He added that there is a section of the policy which speaks to the particular topic.
