An Essequibo man is currently on trial before Justice Gino Persaud and a jury at the High Court in Essequibo on charges of raping an 11-year-old girl on two occasions back in 2018.
The jury was empaneled on Tuesday morning.
He has been slapped with two counts of rape-of-a-child under 16 years.
On the first count, Adriane Sewdeen is alleged to have raped the child between June 1st and 30th of 2018. He is then again alleged to have sexually penetrated the child the very next month—on July 9th.
The man has pleaded not guilty to both charges.
The trial proceedings are being held in-camera at the Sexual Offences Court in Essequibo
The state’s case is being presented by Prosecutor Lisa Cave.
