Express International Inc has been managing its parent company’s US trucking service from the West Demerara and 200 jobs have been created here and more are planned.
This was disclosed in a release yesterday from Go-Invest which reported its Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Peter Ramsaroop as saying that Express International has positioned Guyana as an entry market for outsourced logistics management.
Ramsaroop and the CEO of Express International, Ken Deocharran have signed an investment agreement.
Ramsaroop said that Go-Invest is working with investors to expand the technology sector through innovation by facilitating outsourcing projects in Guyana. Referring to Express International Inc., he further stated, “I am pleased that the company has taken the position to expand its operation in the Guyana Market. The creation of over 200 higher paying jobs indicates that Guyana truly is open for investments.”
Express International Inc. started in Guyana in 2013 to provide outsourced logistics support for its parent company, Express Trucking and Courier Inc. a US-based corporation. The Dispatcher, having no US Transportation knowledge, meant months of training for the heavily regulated industry to offset the typical hire if it was done in the USA, the release said.
Express Group is made up of five logos, inclusive of the Express International brand in Guyana, and all other brands registered in the United States. Local operations started in Patentia, West Bank Demerara, with just one employee serving as a dispatcher for a fleet of over fifteen semi-tractor trailer units operating out of the US for major air freight and dedicated lane clients such as Amazon, DHL Global Forwarding, FedEx Trade Networks, UPS, amongst others.
The group grew with the addition of more dispatchers providing 24/7 support to the fleet from the Guyana office. All driver communication on pick-up and drop-off details, route recommendations, delays with deliveries, and administrative matters were handled by the local team. Gradually, other support services such as track and trace agents, driver and fleet managers, and an all-inclusive safety team supporting with weather, video, and log monitoring were added. The team now manages their entire fleet from Guyana, with only the drivers and a handful of employees based in the USA, to meet US regulations.
Like the rest of the world, when COVID-19 hit, and companies were cautioned to implement protective strategies and business continuity plans, Express’s first approach was to protect its employees. Safety was a critical part of the company’s success with more than 50% of their employees working from home until the company feels it is safe again for a full return to the office. The head office of Express International Inc. is currently located in Hadfield Street, Georgetown. The brand aims to work along with the Government of Guyana to add two hundred plus jobs before the end of 2021, coupled with its goal of diversifying its offerings to the local and international population through opportunities in ground transportation and air freight in the global supply chain.
