Gun found in Parika house during police raid

The Guyana Police Force has informed that three persons have been arrested following a search conducted at two Parika homes, one of which housed a gun.

According to a Guyana Police Force report, members of the force, who were acting on information, on Wednesday carried out a raid at the home of Devendra Campbell, called ‘Dan’ or ‘Josh’, of Lot 779 Parika Facade, East Bank Essequibo. The report states that the purpose of the raid was to search for firearms and ammunition.

However, the police said that nothing was found after the search was carried out in the seaman’s home and yard. Instead, the man informed them that he had instructed a relative to move the items and it was later revealed by the relative that the items were taken to the residence of Sahadeo Boodhoo, of Lot 775 Parika Facade, East Bank Essequibo.

A search of the property in the owner’s presence unearthed a nickel and black firearm, suspected to be a .38 revolver with the markings ‘3791’ on the frame.

It was stated that Campbell admitted to being the owner of the firearm and he provided a statement to the police, under caution. The police said that the persons were then escorted to the Parika Police Station, where the firearm was marked, sealed and lodged. Investigations are still ongoing.
