A man was yesterday sentenced to 18 months behind bars after he admitted to stealing another man’s car and driving it into a drain.
Omar Francis pleaded guilty to stealing the car when he appeared before Senior Magistrate Leron Daly in a city court.
He committed the crime on 8 March in Georgetown. The Police Prosecutor told the court that the virtual complainant arrived at his home and exited the vehicle. He then proceeded to open his gate but before he could go back into the car, Francis had already entered the vehicle. After getting into the car, Francis drove off but he ended up crashing into a drain, the prosecutor said. Following the crash, he tried to escape but the police arrived at the scene before he could.
Francis told the court that he was sorry for his actions while adding that he was not in his right mind at the time. He said he would work and pay back the victim for the damage caused.
