A Mabaruma man is now in hospital after he was stabbed five times by a man whom he alleges disrespected his girlfriend.
The suspect has since been arrested.
The injured man is Michael Pierre, of Hubu Hill, Mabaruma, North West District.
According to the Guyana Police Force, Pierre’s mother reported that on Tuesday night her son left home at around 6.30pm to attend a wake, but later returned home at about 10.30pm bleeding from five stab wounds to his upper body. She said her son told her that he was stabbed by a man who was disrespecting his girlfriend.
He was rushed to the Mabaruma Regional Hospital where he was examined and subsequently air dashed to Georgetown Public Hospital for further treatment.
Police also recovered a knife believed to be the weapon used in the stabbing.
Investigations are ongoing.
