Originally set for yesterday, the Berbice Cricket Board/Let’s Bet 100-ball ‘Champion of Champions’ tournament will now bowl off today at the Albion Community Centre Cricket Club ground.
According to BCB president Hilbert Foster, the venue has been booked by the Ministry of Agriculture and Guysuco only informed of the event on late notice.
Foster predicted an exciting contest with the four teams already showing they deserved to be in the semi-final having topped their individual zones.
The BCB President reminded that no spectators will be allowed in the ground and those taking part will have to be respectful of the COVID-19 guidelines.
Weather permitting, the two semi-finals will see West Berbice zone champions, D’Edward battling New Amsterdam/Canje winners, Rose Hall Canje at 09.30 hours while Lower Corentyne zone winners, Rose Hall Town Bakewell will take on Dukestown Warriors, who won the Upper Corentyne Zone from 11.30 hours.
Among those expected to represent Rose Hall Town Bakewell are Simon Naidu, former West Indies Under-19 batsman Kevlon Anderson who will captain the side along with former national youth players, Sylus Tyndall, Keith Simpson, Junior Sinclair, and West Indies female players, Shemaine Campbelle and Erva Giddings.
Rose Hall Canje will have the services of Ameer Rahaman, Sasenarine Sukhu, Rocky Beepat, Michael Campbelle and Mark Sampson while Dukestown will be represented by Jermaine Reid, Errol Byass, Wayne Amsterdam and Nolan Richard. D’Edward are expected to feature, Damien and Devindra Lalsa, Keith Fraser, Jaipaul Heeralall and Altaf Khan.
The final is scheduled to begin at 14.00 hours. The winning team will pocked $100,000 while the runners-up will take home $50,000. The losing semi-finalists will each receive $20,000.
