Bayli Spencer-Adams, who is on loan at 5th tier English League outfit Dover Athletic from championship unit Watford FC, has been named in the Golden Jaguars preliminary FIFA World Cup Qualifiers squad for the Trinidad and Tobago and The Bahamas matches.
This was disclosed by parent club Watford FC on its official website. According to the release, the 6’3 defender has received his provisional selection for the matches on the 25th (Trinidad and Tobago) and 31st (The Bahamas) respectively. Both fixtures are set for the Dominican Republic.
The English born Spencer-Adams, 19, qualifies to represent the Golden Jaguars via his father. He was initially scouted by Guyana’s management team last year following his performances for Dover Athletic.
“I received a few messages in the past, but I didn’t really think it would turn into anything serious,” said Spencer-Adams. “I’ve played a few senior games and now they’ve confirmed their interest. I’m delighted to accept and can’t wait to meet up with some of the lads. I’ve already spoken to a few of them and we all can’t wait to play in World Cup qualifiers.”
Spencer-Adams is expected to be among several overseas-born and based players expected to feature for the Golden Jaguars in the prestigious qualifiers. Confirmation of Spencer-Adams selection will be known when the Golden Jaguars team is officially announced on Wednesday.
Guyana is scheduled to open its group-F campaign against Trinidad on March 25th before locking horns with The Bahamas five days later.
The Guyanese will then travel to St. Kitts and Nevis for their third match on June 4th, before ending their group round at home on June 8th against Puerto Rico. Only the group winner will progress to the second stage of the qualifiers.
