(Jamaica Star) A man who proposed to his girlfriend in court in January as he answered to charges of assaulting her, is now in lock-up.
On January 21, Andre Chantiloupe proposed to Neisha Morrison, moments after he was called to defend himself against the charges stemming from a December incident. The proposal had persons teary-eyed, while some stared in admiration and awe. After apologising, Chantiloupe vowed before the court that his actions would not be repeated. But on March 1, the 36-year-old allegedly broke the vow as Morrison said that he choked her.
“All the whole a me neck scratch and thing. One of the time me couldn’t breathe. Me only a hear voices over my head a say ‘let her go, you ago kill her’,” said Morrison. “All that he did was just a show so people can have sympathy on him because see him do the same thing again.” The Kingston Central police have confirmed that Chantiloupe was arrested last week, but did not say what he has been charged with. Morrison said that after the proposal, she had a re-think and told Chantiloupe to give her some time.
“Then me tell him straight up I no longer want to do it, just live his life and I will live mine and him still a talk about him nah give up,” she said. “I was serious so me stop take him call and block him because anytime him call, what him say is not relevant to me anymore.”
Morrison said that on the night in question, Chantiloupe called their son saying that he planned to drop off his monthly allowance.
“But he was taking a while, so me decide to go on the road to get the money because the kids really needed some stuff. When me come back me see him stand up outside me gate a wait on me. Then him a go ask where me a come from, so me tell him that’s my personal business,” Morrison told THE STAR.
“Him start come up in a me face and by the time me turn around to walk off, him hold on pon me hand a pull me, then him grab me throat. Him create one piece of excitement bout him carry money and me nuh deh home. Him could a just give me son the money and leave.” Morrsion and Chantiloupe had been together for 14 years, and have two children.
“I’ve been through a lot with him and I don’t wish to do it anymore, because all him do is put on a show,” she said.
