A logger was crushed to death by a falling tree at #28 Miles, Unamco Backdam, Upper Berbice River two Sundays ago.
Dead is Patrick Anthony Gonsalves of Kwakwani.
The incident occurred around 2 pm on March 7th.
Reports are that Gonsalves and others were cutting trees in the area. After cutting the last of the trees, Stabroek News was told that Gonsalves and the men stepped away to allow it to fall. Gonsalves subsequently noticed one of the men standing in the path of the falling tree and rushed to rescue him and he was fatally crushed.
Gonsalves was taken to the Kwakwani Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
Minister of Public Works Juan Edghill travelled to the Kwakwani on Sunday to comfort and lend his support to the family of Gonsalves.
