With a jury unable to arrive at a verdict, Kevin Mohan now faces a retrial for the murder of his aunt Anita Mohan.
Following hours of deliberations yesterday afternoon, the forewoman announced that the panel was deadlocked and unable to arrive at a consensus.
Justice Navindra Singh who presided over the case at the High Court in Georgetown, then informed Mohan that the jury was hung and as a result he would have to undergo a fresh trial.
Mohan, also known as ‘Chucky,’ is accused of the September 4th, 2016 murder of his aunt, Anita, from whom he is accused of stealing money.
Anita Mohan, called ‘Sandra,’ 48, a vendor, was found dead by her son, Imtiaz Khan, lying on the kitchen floor of her 315 Cummings Lodge, East Coast Demerara home, with stab wounds about her upper body.
The man had also said that his mother’s head was bashed in.
Mohan is accused of stabbing his aunt to death at her Cummings Lodge home.
Police had said the man confessed to the crime and implicated an accomplice. Mohan, however, maintained that he knew nothing about the murder.
The accused was represented by defence attorney Ravindra Mohabir.
Meanwhile, the state’s case was presented by Prosecutor Tiffini Lyken.
