Kristopher Stoll was yesterday remanded to prison after being charged with the murder of Kameel Calistro, who was fatally stabbed during a confrontation between two others at Swan, Kuru Kururu, Soesdyke/Linden Highway.
Stoll, 20, of Swan made his first court appearance before Magistrate Sunil Scarce, at the Diamond/Grove Magistrate’s Court where the charge was read to him.
He was not required to plead to the indictable charge and was remanded to prison until April 17 when the matter will be called again.
Calistro, a mother of two, also of Swan, was stabbed during the early hours of Sunday at about 3:45 am.
Police in a statement had said that the suspect was highly intoxicated at the time of stabbing and was involved in an argument over which girl could dance better.
Preliminary investigations revealed that Kameel was at a ‘birth night’ party at her aunt, Shavon Calistro, who resides at Lot 11 Swan, and was drinking and dancing to music being played from a vehicle that was parked in front of the unfenced yard. At the time, the police say, there were several others present also drinking and dancing. Stoll had then engaged in an argument about which girl could dance better.
The argument, which was between Stoll and relatives of the victim, prompted him to pull out a knife from the right side of his waist and allegedly attempt to stab 29-year-old Adolph Joseph of 46 Swan who is a cousin of the victim. The knife made a minor laceration to the lower left side of Joseph’s abdomen.
Calistro intervened, police said, and Stoll allegedly stabbed her in the left side of her abdomen. She then collapsed and was rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital where she was pronounced dead on arrival.
Her sister Ruth Calistro previously said that Kameel was just at the wrong place at the wrong time.
She said that Stoll had turned his attention towards another female, who was with her sister and had allegedly attempted to stab her. However, she managed to get out of his way and before Kameel could have moved away she was fatally stabbed.
Ruth had said that her sister was returning from a party in Kuru Kururu to pick up her children when she came into contact with Stoll and the group of persons who were arguing.
She stated that a female who had accompanied her sister told the suspect to go home and sleep after overhearing their argument.
“He tried to stab my cousin but then another girl who was with my sister turn and tell he go home and sleep and he turn around to her and said ‘oh you talking up too’ and tried to stab her with the knife. But she jumped out of the way and he end up stabbing my sister. Before they could have tell her Kristopher get a knife, he done stab her,” the grieving sister said.
The sister added that after Kameel was stabbed she rushed towards them and called out to her brother urging them to take her for medical attention.
It was at this point, she said her sister collapsed in front of their shop and was picked up and rushed to the hospital.
