The Georgetown Cricket Association (GCA) season is expected to resume this weekend with six matches.
Cricket in the capital city has been on hold for over a year because of the Coronavirus pandemic.
The GCA was originally planning a February restart but that was shifted to last weekend.
However, rainfall last weekend effectively scuppered the matches scheduled.
The highlight of this weekend’s games will be the Police Sports Club hosting of the Guyana National Industrial Corporation (GNIC) from 09.30 hours in the lone GISE/Star Party Rental and Trophy Stall first-division, two-day tournament.
The game will start at 9.30am today and tomorrow.
Police currently sits joint second with 40 points along with Malteenoes Sports Club while their group B rivals, GNIC are in fifth place with 23 points.
Both teams have two matches remaining.
In the Noble House Seafoods second-division two-day tournament, Everest Cricket Club will host the University of Guyana while over at Queen’s College, Bel Air Rubis will battle Third Class and Muslim Youth Organisation (MYO) will take on Malteenoes.
With two matches remaining, MYO are third in Group A on 69 points while Malteenoes, who have three matches left, are fifth on 56 points.
In Group `B’ UG are third with 74 points with three matches remaining while Bel Air Rubis are on ted 37 points with five matches left. Everest are on 35 points while Third Class are on 22 points.
Both have four matches outstanding.
Today, in the New Building Society second-division 40-overs competition, Zone A table-toppers, Georgetown Cricket Club (GCC), who are on 79 points with three matches left, take on seventh-placed Guyana Defence Force (GDF), with 24 points and five matches left at GCC from 11.00 hours.
Tomorrow will see the GDF facing Gandhi Youth Organisation who have 48 points and three matches left from 11.00 hours at the Queen’s College ground.
The organisers are reminding teams to ensure all players wear their masks, walk with sanitizers, their own water and water bottles, rags and food and also to maintain social distancing while in the pavilion.
