Two-time Chutney and Calypso Monarch, Roger ‘Young Bill Rogers’ Hinds is back at it again as he competes in next week’s Chutney and Calypso Monarch competitions hoping to bag hat tricks in both competitions.

His two new songs entered in the competitions are Chutney single “The Larkis’ Man” and the Calypso “Say No To Racism”. The competitions are set for next weekend.

Roger has been competing for almost 30 years and has been making it to the final. He has also previously made it to the Soca Monarchy final, but not this year.

His Chutney song speaks to him attracting the ladies since he won the Chutney Monarchy.

Meanwhile, “Say No To Racism”, which was recorded last year was inspired by the killing of African American George Floyd by police officers during an arrest. “Racism is a pandemic by itself. Racism is a heinous crime. We must learn to love and respect each other,” Roger

emphasized.

For the Calypso Monarch competition, Roger usually has a political song up his sleeve, but according to him there is the same audience every year at these competitions who love listening to these political songs. He decided to make a switch because there is a much different and larger audience this year with the competitions being hosted virtually.

“I decided to change the message,” said Roger. “I think the songs are frontrunners in the competition. That along with my presentation and my performance will make an impact.”

“The Larkis’ Man” was recorded by the Shakti Strings Band while “Say No To Racism” was recorded by Claude Bascom of CB Studio, USA.
