A woman was yesterday found engulfed in flames at her Zeelandia Estate, Wakenaam Island, Essequibo River home.
The dead woman has been identified as 75-year-old Bissondai Lall also known as Sama.
The Guyana Police Force (GPF) in a statement said that the incident occurred between 5 am and 6.30 am yesterday.
According to the report, Lall was last seen alive in her bedroom yesterday morning by her son.
However, at about 6.30 am another son of the deceased who lives next door observed smoke emanating from Lall’s home. The man then found his mother’s burning body lying on the floor along with a green kerosene stove turned on its side.
The woman was taken to the Wakenaam Cottage Hospital where she was pronounced dead by a doctor on duty.
The body was subsequently taken to the Wakenaam Cottage Hospital Mortuary where it awaits a post-mortem examination.
