Jai Hind Jaguars top of the tree in BMC

A 47-run win over Timothy Masters followed by a walkover in round three comfortably placed Jai Hind Jaguars at the top of the table in the Banks Beer/Maximum Vodka Big Man Cricket T25 tournament.

The over-45 tournament’s second-round match on Friday was the lone contest of the day at the Enmore Community Centre ground where Jaguars posted 211 for seven before restricting Masters to 164 for eight.

The Berbice-based Jaguars, strung together a series of partnerships from the get-go with Hassan Hussain stroking 47, laced with three fours and one six at the top of the order. Hussain added 41 for the first wicket with Subramani Mangali (29) and 52 for the second wicket with Kemraj Sumir (27).

Steve Haripaul picked up five wickets for four runs.

The opener also shared a 47-run fourth wicket stand with Permaul Mangali who carved four fours and two sixes in the top score of 48. When Hussain fell to Peter Persaud, Mangali shared in a 46-run stand with John Percival who made 35. Bowling for Timothy Masters, Dubraj Singh took 3-23 and Persaud 2-45.

In reply, Permaul Mangali and Percival each took two wickets while Cylus Gibson scored an even half century, decorated with six boundaries. Gibson was supported by Nirmaldeo Sarwan (27), Persaud (22) and Mark Ferreira (20).

Jaguars turned up on Sunday at Farm Ground, East Bank Demerara and were set to play Real Warriors who only could field six players, one player short of constituting a team according to the regulations.

Meanwhile, when the second round continued on Saturday, GT Royal Rangers handed Corentyne Rangers a 54-run defeat at the No. 72 Cut and Load Ground, Upper Corentyne.

GT Royal Rangers won the toss and batted, posting 173 for six.

Nadir Baksh top scored with 45, Shaun Massiah  made 37 and Tajenarine Ramroop 27.

Michael Singh took 2-24 for the hosts.

The Berbice-side were routed for 119 in 23 overs with Chatterpaul Lionel left stranded on 31 not out.

Bashur Khan took 3-20 and Baksha and Oslyn Batson two wickets each.

In Essequibo at the Imam Bacchus Ground, Affiance, Essequibo Eagles soared to an eight-wicket win over West Dem Vipers.

Vipers won the toss and batted, posting 125 for nine.

Muneshwar Balgobin top scored with 46. Beesham Seepersaud bagged 4-23 and Trevis Simon 2-16 for Eagles.

Eagles’ chase was piloted by Ramesh Narine who clubbed six fours and three sixes in 64 not out. Openers, Dharmandeo Lall and Deopaul Drepaul chipped in with 36 and 18 not out respectively.

In the final match of the round, West Dem Warriors defeated Real Warriors by a massive 227 runs at Farm Ground.

West Dem Warriors won the toss and batted, racing to 254 for five. Deoram Persaud stroked 13 fours and four sixes on his way to a 76-ball 106 while Ganesh Persaud and Eion Williams chipped in with 36 and 29 respectively.

Real Warriors were routed for 29 in 10.2 overs. No batsman reached double figures as left-arm spinner, Steve Haripaul, took five wickets for just four runs.

On Sunday in the third round, Eagles defeated Upper Corentyne Rangers by eight wickets while West Dem Vipers beat Timothy Masters by five wickets despite Peter Persaud’s 4-49.
