The Ministry of Natural Resources, in conjunction with the Protected Areas Commission, is calling on all miners and loggers carrying out illegal operations within designated Protected Areas to cease forthwith all such activities.
According to a press release from the ministry, the Guyana Geology and Mines Commission, the Guyana Forestry Commission and the Protected Areas Commission continue to receive reports of illegal mining and logging in Protected Areas, particularly the Kanuku Mountains, Iwokrama and the Kaieteur National Park.
The ministry is warning those who continue to violate the Act governing these areas will be subjected to prosecution and all equipment will be seized. The Protected Areas include, in addition to those listed above, Shell Beach and the Kanashen Amerindian Protected Areas.
