Clinton Allen, who previously pleaded guilty to manslaughter, was yesterday sentenced to seven years, two months and six days imprisonment for the crime.
Justice Gino Persaud imposed the sentence when the matter was called at the High Court at Suddie.
Allen previously admitted that between May 30 and May 31, 2019, at Kamarang Landing, Maza-runi, Essequibo, he murdered Godrell Joseph. He was originally indicted for murder but he pleaded to the lesser offence.
The prosecution’s case is that on the day in question, Allen and Joseph were imbibing at a bar in Kamarang and became involved in an argument. Allen subsequently left the bar and waited outside to again confront Joseph after the initial altercation. Dur-ing this confrontation, Allen broke a Corona beer bottle and stabbed Joseph in the neck and head. The man’s body was discovered on the roadway a little over a week later. It was reported that the killing was a result of a fight between the two men which had occurred two years earlier.
