Whim labourer fined for Water St clothes theft

A labourer was on Wednesday fined $70,000 after he pleaded guilty to stealing a quantity of clothes from a vendor while his co-accused was granted bail.

Lakeram Sukhdeo, 38, a labourer of Whim, Corentyne, Berbice and 47-year-old Ali Khan, a labourer with no fixed address, were brought before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Courts where they were charged with simple larceny.

It is alleged that on March 16, at Water Street, Georgetown, they stole a quantity of clothes valued $81,500, property of Quacey McKay.
