A motorcyclist died on Friday after reportedly crashing into the rear of a minibus while traveling along the Prospect Public Road, on the East Bank of Demerara.
The police on Friday evening reported that the accident involving minibus BMM 5344 and motorcycle CK 6480 claimed the life of Calvin Pitt, of Werk-en-Rust, Georgetown.
Initial investigations revealed that the minibus was proceeding north along the western carriageway of the Prospect Public Road, where the driver alleged that he felt a hard impact to the back of the vehicle.
The rider of the motorcycle was flung into the air and flew into the rear windscreen of the minibus and subsequently landed on the rear passenger seat. Pitt was picked up in a conscious state and transported to the Georgetown Public Hospital, where he then lost consciousness.
At the time, he was admitted in critical condition and was being treated for head injuries, broken ribs and fractured legs along with a number of other injuries.
Pitt later succumbed to his injuries around 3.30 pm while receiving treatment at the hospital.
The driver of the minibus underwent a breathalyzer test which uncovered no alcohol content in his breath.
