Kast Talent Management in collaboration with Reeces Pieces will host a six-day model workshop dubbed Runway 101 set to begin in two weeks.
The training session will be provided by two of Kast Talent Management’s models, Michael Sam and Kureece King, who is also the owner of Reeces Pieces. The idea of having a workshop was Kureece’s, who has been planning the sessions since October last year.
The six-feet tall woman has been a model for the past two years, while Sam has quite a number of years in the industry under his belt. Part of why she decided to host such an event, Kureece explained, is as a result of a photoshoot she did in December of 2019. According to the model, she would be described as heavy, and following the December shoot, many people commended her on being bold to get into modelling. Realizing her influence on the public, she decided to have the workshop so that prospective models can benefit from all the knowledge that will be provided through the sessions.
The workshop is for people who have little to no experience in modelling and is open to both sexes, they have to be 15 years and older. All participants will be required to wear black or dark clothing and girls and women should walk with their heels.
Runway 101, Kureece said, will offer knowledge on the 14 different modelling categories, several of which she listed: editorial, glamour, promotional and commercial. Kureece is a glamour and commercial model. Runway 101 will also teach about model etiquette and about preparing their portfolio. Participants will work in pairs on model routines. Three facilitators within the model industry will also be involved at the event.
The final day of the workshop has been designated a fun day and show, where participants will present some of what they learned during their classes. The event will also allow for small businesses to set up at the venue and put their products up for sale.
When asked how beneficial the workshop will be during a pandemic where many events are still prohibited, Kureece pointed out that at the end participants will be equipped to model at small events or become promotional or commercial models. In addition, because businesses entities are expected to be present at the fun day and show, models may be scouted to represent their brands or take up commercials.
Upon completion, participants will receive certificates from Kast Talent Management.
Kureece noted that she is looking for more sponsors to come on board to donate tables and chairs and beverages, explaining that Xpress Delivery Service has already opted to donate facemasks and sanitizers for their participants.
Kureece acknowledged Kast Talent Management Director Khamisi Slowe who has been assisting through all of this.
Registration costs $1,000 while the workshop will be an additional $5,000. Participants are required to pay half of their fees at the first session. All writing materials for the sessions will be provided.
The sessions are scheduled for two hours from 3 pm to 5 pm on April 10, 11, 17, 18, 24 and 25. All COVID-19 protocols will be in effect.
The venue for the workshop is lot A H Durban Street, Wortmanville. For more information, the team can be reached at email kureeceking@icloud.com or kasttalentmanagement@gmail.com or 671-5909.
