The cricket family of Dominica has thrown its full support behind Tyrone Theophile, the former Dominica captain and Windward Islands batsman.

The hard-hitting opener is in need of urgent financial support following an accident last year.

He received severe injuries and the funds raised will go towards a second surgery.

Liam Sebastien, also a former Dominica and Windwards payer, is part of an organizing committee of activities  to be held today at the Windsor Park in Roseau. As part of the efforts there will have a celebrity match featuring several local government and opposition officials, present and former players. There will also be a double-wicket competition and a six-hitting competition.

“Tyrone was a very good cricketer for Dominica and the Windward Islands, and he also played for the West Indies President’s XI, so he made a wonderful contribution to the game. Now in his time of need, we would love persons to assist, and we urge everyone who can, to make a contribution to help. We are trying to raise funds to get him back to as close as where he was before. It’s a major undertaking, it’s not easy, but we all have to lend a helping hand,” Sebastien said. The 31-year-old Theophile made his debut for the Windward Islands against Jamaica in January 2010. In his 68 first-class matches he scored 3,055 runs including three centuries including a top score of 160. (Cricket West Indies)
