There is no magic bullet

Let me tell you some things many people would like to hear and believe: Take this pill and you will lose 15 pounds in a week. Drink this detox or this juice cleanse and you will lose weight immediately, get healthier and rid your body of toxins. Sugar and carbs are very bad and if you cut them off completely you will lose weight quite easily.

Now, let me tell you what the reality is: To lose weight, you need to be in a caloric deficit (eat fewer calories than you burn/use in a day). You do not need to completely cut carbs, take a mystery pill or drink some special tea or juice.

I have said this before, but it bears repeating, there is actual science as well as endless studies proving that all you need to lose weight is a caloric deficit. Regardless of what diet you follow, the only one losing from believing in social media talk and pseudoscience, is you. Your wallet too, I guess, and that has also been proven time and time again.

There is no magic bullet that will get you the strong, healthy body you want. You have got to put in the work. Now let’s talk about motivation and strength and how they work.

Motivation is what makes you productive once or a few times, consistency is what keeps you productive in the long run.

There is a hype around feeling motivated to get things done. However, without the discipline to actually get started, the perseverance to keep on going and consistency to stay in it daily, you will not get the results you want, that’s just how it works.

Discipline, perseverance, and consistency are needed for results with regard to achieving goals, and goals breed motivation. As it turns out, it’s a circle.

Strength

I would define strength as the ability to achieve something, even in a difficult situation. You should not let the fact that you don’t know what you’re doing stop you from doing anything. Whatever we do, even the most basic things like walking, reading, working or dating, we all start everything from a place of not knowing. We start and we do and through the doing, we learn. We may not get it right the first time, but we do eventually once we keep at it.

In my own fitness journey, I made steps and took risks. I have had what I saw as failures, but which in retrospect have in fact been huge victories. So, what are you waiting for? Get out there and win, grow and build strength.
