Tuschen man fatally stabbed with scissors

A heated argument between drinking buddies turned deadly when a Tuschen, East Bank Essequibo (EBE) man was  stabbed with a pair of scissors during the wee hours of yesterday.

The dead man has been identified as Floyd McGarrell, 34, a driver of Tuschen Wrong Turn Squatting Area.

Police in a statement yesterday said that the murder occurred at approximately 4.45 am at Back Street. The suspect, a 41-year-old fisherman, who is said to be from the same area was arrested sometime after and is presently in police custody assisting with investigations.

The deceased’s reputed wife, Natasha Dass told police that her husband was consuming alcohol with the suspect and two others a short distance from their home. At about 2.00 am, she said he returned home but after a short while informed her that he was going out again.

The reputed wife related that at around 4.00 am, she heard an argument between McGarrell and his friends. As a result, she went to enquire what the commotion was about and saw her husband and the suspect in a heated argument.

In the midst of the argument, she said that the suspect punched McGarrell in his face before stabbing him in his abdomen with the scissors. The assailant then fled the scene.

The wife further told the police that she took her husband home and went to summon a neighbour to assist her with transporting McGarrell to the hospital. However,  she told police  that when she returned home she observed her husband lying motionless and she immediately raised an alarm.  The matter was then reported to the Leonora Police Station.

McGarrell was then taken to the Leonora Cottage Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

The body is currently at the Ezekiel Funeral Home at Best Village, West Coast Demerara awaiting an autopsy.
