Guyana’s COVID-19 death toll now stands at 229 after two more fatalities were recorded yesterday.
The Ministry of Health in a press release said that the latest deaths were those of a 67-year-old woman from Region Three and a 63-year-old woman from Region Four. They both died while receiving care at medical facilities.
Meanwhile, some 14 new cases of the virus were reported yesterday which increased the total number of positive confirmed cases in the country to 10,182. The new cases came after some 427 more persons were tested. This increased the total number of persons tested in the country to 88,562.
Of the new cases, seven were recorded in Region Four, five in Region Seven and two in Region Ten. There are now 1,020 active cases, 54 of whom are in institutional isolation while 966 are in home isolation. Some 11 persons remain in the COVID-19 intensive care unit even as 14 persons are in institutional quarantine.
Forty-three more persons have recovered from the virus and as a result the total number of recovered cases in the country now stands at 8,922.
