A labourer, who pleaded not guilty to stealing almost two dozen cows, was yesterday released on $50,000 bail. Dexwayne Evans, also known as ‘Packa,’ of Dartmouth, Essequibo Coast, appeared before Magistrate Esther Sam at the Anna Regina Magistrate’s Court. It is alleged that between October 10, 2020, and January 12, 2021 at Cozier Backdam, Essequibo Coast, he stole 23 cows valued at $3.5 million and which were the property of Bernice Sooklall Rodrigues. Evans pleaded not guilty to the charge and was placed on $50,000 bail. The matter was transferred to the Charity Magistrate’s Court, where a hearing has been fixed for April, 19, 2021.
