Essequibo resident Adriane Sewdeen now awaits sentencing after a jury yesterday afternoon convicted him on charges of raping an 11-year-old girl on two occasions back in 2018.
Following hours of deliberations, the 12-member panel returned with a unanimous verdict, convicting Sewdeen on the first count with raping the child between June 1st and 30th of 2018— and a majority verdict of 11-1 for again raping the child, the very next month—on July 9th.
Justice Gino Persaud who presided over the trial has, however, deferred sentencing to April 30th to facilitate the presentation of a probation report.
The trial proceedings were being held in-camera at the Sexual Offences Court in Essequibo
The state’s case was presented by Prosecutor Lisa Cave.
