A man was on Wednesday fined after he told the court that he was working when the police arrested him for allegedly breaching the curfew.
Akash Ramkissoon was fined $15,350 after he confessed to breaching the curfew charge when Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan read the charge to him at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Courts.
It is alleged that on February 23, at Guyana Motor Racing and Sports Club, Albert Street and Woolford Avenue, Georgetown, he hosted a private party.
Following his guilty plea, Ramkissoon told the court that he works at the location mentioned in the charge and that on the day in question the shutters were already down when the police approached and arrested the few persons who were still there.
The police prosecutor told the court that the police made the arrest at 01:15 hrs in the morning. He said that the police arrived at the location and observed the party before contacting Ramkissoon. The party goers were then asked to disperse and Ramkissoon was cautioned and escorted to the Alberttown Police Station where he was charged.
