A member of the Guyana Defence Force (GDF) and a Guyana Water Incorporated (GWI) employee were arrested on Saturday after the Police found 16 grammes of suspected cannabis in their home.

A statement by the Police said that the between 03:00 and 05:00 hours, a group of policemen conducted a raid on the home of the 38-year-old GDF rank at Goed Fortuin Squatting Area, West Bank Demerara. The 32-year-old GWI employee is also residing at the same address.

The statement said that a search was conducted in the duo’s presence and a white transparent plastic bag containing a quantity of zip lock bags with leaves, seeds and stems suspected to be cannabis, was found in the living room behind a cabinet. The duo was told of the allegation and cautioned and both denied having knowledge of the narcotic.

They were arrested and taken to the Vreed-en-Hoop police station where the suspected cannabis was weighed. It amounted to 16 grammes.

It was also stated that a raid was conducted on another home belonging to a 35-year-old resident of Goed Intent but nothing was found.
