Following their return from the Dominican Republic where they contested the opening two rounds of the 2022 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers, the Golden Jaguars football team is aiming to resume preparation as soon as possible for their matches in June.

This was disclosed by Communications Officer of the Guyana Football Federation (GFF) Keeran Williams. According to Williams, the federation and the management team are working on a plan to resume preparation in the shortest possible time frame.

He explained, “They are looking to resume as soon as possible. While some time would have been lost since their return, the plan is to resume soon to continue preparation.”

Meanwhile, a player who spoke on the condition of anonymity disclosed that the squad has been informed of this ongoing situation by the federation and will be notified immediately on the resumption of the training phase.

The Golden Jaguars ended the first round of the qualifiers which were held in the Dominican Republic, with a record of one win and a loss.

The Guyanese lost their opening encounter against traditional rival Trinidad and Tobago by a 3-0 margin on March 25th.

However, the Marcio Maximo coached Golden Jaguars rebounded from that loss to secure a vital result 4-0 against The Bahamas five days later.

Presently, the Guyanese sit in third place on three points, trailing St. Kitts and Nevis and Trinidad and Tobago with six and four points respectively.

Guyana will resume their World Cup qualifying campaign on June 4th when they oppose St. Kitts and Nevis. They will then end their group campaign four days later against Puerto Rico.

Only the group winner will progress to the second stage of the qualifiers. If successful in their bid to qualify to the second round, Guyana will be paired against the winner of group-A.
