A Nabaclis man who was trapped in a fire, succumbed to his injuries at the Georgetown Public Hospital (GPH) on Tuesday night.
The deceased was identified as 27-year-old Phineas Headley of Lot 63 Section ‘C’, Nabaclis, East Coast Demerara.
A police report stated that Headley, who relatives said suffered from a mental disorder, resided in a one-storey wooden house that did not have electricity.
On the day in question, a relative who dwelled at a lot nearby spoke of hearing a loud explosion followed by screaming, after which the deceased was seen lying in the yard.
He was picked up and taken to the GPH where he underwent surgery but later succumbed to his injuries at about 9.50 pm.
The Guyana Fire Service was summoned and the fire was subsequently extinguished.
