The Civil Defence Commission (CDC) says it has received reports of flooding as a result of heavy rainfall in Aranka, Cuyuni-Mazaruni (Region 7).
Reports from the Regional Chairman and the Guyana Geology and Mines Commission (GGMC) have confirmed that about half of the village’s population (2500) have been affected, the CDC said in a release today.
The area, primarily a mining community, is now using boats to get to essential locations and to carry supplies.
The CDC is in contact with the Regional Administration and will be deploying a team to support the response.
