A sailor who fell overboard after his feet became entangled in a fishing seine while tossing it into the ocean some 65 miles off shore at Waini Mouth, North West District, on Monday, is still to be located.
The police in a statement on Tuesday, said that Vickram Hardowar, 45, of Uitvlugt, West Coast Demerara is feared drowned after he went overboard at about 4.30 am on Monday.
At the time of the incident, Hardowar was a part of a crew of six fishermen.
The report added that Hardowar’s co-workers after witnessing the incident, tossed two life jackets in his direction and were in the process of turning the boat around when they heard three shouts for help then silence.
A Coast Guard Patrol search was conducted in the area where Hardowar went overboard but he could not be found.
The matter was reported to the Morawhanna Police Station.
