Days after he was reported missing, the lifeless body of a 20-year-old miner was yesterday discovered floating in the Arakaka River, North West District (NWD), Region One.
Dead is Avinash Fernandes of Mabaruma Compound, NWD, Region One.
The police yesterday said that Fernandes went missing on Monday.
He was last seen at his camp site at 13 Miles Trail Line Backdam, Arakaka.
At the time, Fernandes was dressed in a black, white and red jersey, light grey long pants and black slippers.
In a subsequent release, Regional Commander, Superintendent Khalid Mandall confirmed that the body of Fernandes was found yesterday.
The discovery was made by a party of policemen and Fernandes’ employer. There was no visible mark of violence on the body, Mandall said.
Fernandes’ body was escorted to the Port Kaituma hospital awaiting a post-mortem examination.
