Fezal Mohammed was elected chairman of the executive committee when the South Essequibo Cricket Committee held elections recently.
The biannual elections unfolded at the Aurora Secondary School where representatives of the 10 clubs cast their votes to elect the 11-member executive.
According to the body, the Essequibo Cricket Board were invited to the elections with its secretary, Otto Christiani functioning as returning officer during the process. Mohammed contested against veteran coach, Forbes Daniels and won by 13 votes to six.
Former treasurer Hemraj Doobay was elected vice-chairman after securing 12 votes to Rayan Fredericks’ seven.
Rayon DeCosta also secured 12 votes to become the new secretary ahead of Deborah Daniels who got the approval of seven delegates.
Sherkhan Khan and Andy Ramnarine were elected treasurer and assistant secretary/treasurer respectively with both positions being unopposed.
Otis Roberts was returned as the public relations officer while Fredericks was elected chairman of the selectors. Both positions were uncontested. Timor Mohammed was elected chairman of the competitions committee after securing 14 votes to Ramnarine Ragubar’s five.
Daniel Stoll, Vishnu Persaud and Isaiah Latchman were elected committee members. “The committee remains dedicated to serving members of the clubs in the South Essequibo district. We would also like to thank all our supporters and well-wishers for your abundant support as we strive to keep the game alive during such a difficult time of change for sports in our nation and across the globe,” said Roberts.
