The Lusignan Golf Club will host a memorial tournament dubbed “Colin’s Life Celebration” today at the East Coast Demerara facility.
The tournament will be held in honour of the late businessman and sport enthusiast, Samuel Colin Ming who succumbed to injuries after his motorcycle collided with an ambulance along the J.B. Singh Road and Thomas Lands, Georgetown earlier this month. He was cremated on Friday.
Tee off is set for 09.00 hours with the format being a nine-hole medal play with prizes for the top three finishers. Registration closed at noon yesterday.
According to a release from the body, “It will be a shotgun start observing COVID-19 protocols. Lunch, presentation of trophies and tributes will take place at the conclusion of the game.”
A programme for the event sets welcoming remarks by the club’s Public Relations Officer, Anasha Ally followed by a moment of silence in Ming’s honour.
Shortly after, there will be a tribute by club president, Patanjalie ‘Pur’ Persaud and an unveiling of a plaque by club captain, Patrick Prashad.
Also giving tributes will be vice-president, Paton George, friend, Brian Glasford and groundskeeper, M. Guyadin.
Recently, tributes poured in from other sports disciplines who recognized the work of Ming. Among those were the Athletics Association of Guyana and the Guyana Squash Association, where Ming was a former executive.
Ming was integral towards the drafting of the squash association constitution as well as the rules for the Junior Caribbean Squash championship.
He leaves to mourn his wife Paula Ann Ming, three children, Giselle Ann Ming-Ramlogan, Saralise Ann Mariska Ming and Samuel Ian Colin Ming apart from many family, relatives and friends.
