Neighbours charged with throwing missiles after brawl

Three neighbours who are accused of throwing missiles at each other after a brawl were yesterday released on self-bail after denying the allegations.

Shania Ellis, 19 and Zoisa Profitt, 25, along with their neighbour, Deon Roberts, 46, all of Lot 15 D’Urban Backlands Squatting Area, Georgetown, appeared before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts, where they were read the charges.

The first charge states that on February 21, at D’Urban Backlands, Ellis threw a brick to the annoyance of Roberts. She was also charged with using threatening language towards Roberts. The unemployed woman denied both charges.

Her sister, Profit, a Primary School teacher, was charged with throwing a brick to the annoyance of Roberts on the same date and at the same location. Profitt denied the allegation.

Roberts, who is the sisters’ neighbour, was charged with throwing missiles and he also entered a not guilty plea. It is alleged that on February 21, at D’Urban Backlands, he threw bricks to the annoyance of Profitt.

According to the Police Prosecutor, they all live at the same residence. He said that on the day in question, an argument ensued between the Ellis and Roberts. The argument led to a brawl, after which Profitt got involved, which is when they started throwing missiles at each other. The matter was subsequently reported to police.

Although they were placed on self-bail, the three accused were placed on a peace bond until the completion of the matters. The matters will be called again on May 11.
