Three new COVID-19 deaths were yesterday recorded, pushing the country’s death toll to 258.
This was revealed by the Ministry of Health in two statements where they noted that the 256th and 257th deaths were recorded as of Sunday. They were identified as a 64-year-old man from Region Four and a 60-year-old woman from Region Three who both died while receiving care at the ministry’s facility.
The third COVID-19 fatality for the day and the 258th in the country was recorded as of yesterday and was identified as another 64-year old man from Region Four. He, too, died while receiving care at a medical facility.
Meanwhile some 40 new cases of the virus were recorded yesterday which increased the total number of cases in the country to 11,189. The new cases were reported after some 397 more persons were tested which increased the total number of persons tested to date to 99,746.
The new cases were reported in five of Guyana’s ten administrative regions, one new case in Region One, 12 in Region Three, 17 in Region Four, four in Region Five and six in Region Six. As a result there are now 1164 active cases in the country with 74 in institutional isolation and some 1090 in home isolation.
There are now 17 persons in the country’s COVID-19 Intensive Care Unit even as 30 more persons have recovered from the virus. The total number of recovered cases now stands at 9,751.
