A second man was on Monday charged with the murder of Peter Gonsalves, the Kitty contractor who was shot dead in front of the Red Bar at Garnett Street last December.
Derryck Favourite, who is also known as ‘Rasta man,’ a 30-year-old clothes vendor of Lot 76 Meadow Brook Gardens, George-town, now stands accused of the crime along with Daniel Parris, also known as ‘Black Boy,’ who was previously charged.
It is alleged that Parris and Favourite on Decem-ber 7, 2020, at Garnett Street, Newtown, Kitty, murdered Peter Gonsalves during a robbery.
The two, who were jointly charged, were not required to plead to the indictable charge when it was read to them by Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan and they have been remanded to prison until May 4, 2021, when the matter will be called for report.
Another man, Kacey Heyliger, 28, of 42 Shell Road, Kitty had also been charged with the murder of Gonsalves but the charge was subsequently withdrawn by the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).
After Heyliger was charged, Parris, of ‘D’ Field, Sophia, was charged with the murder in February.
The police had reported that Gonsalves, 60, of Pere Street, Kitty was shot and killed around 9.45pm on December 7, 2020, when he was attacked by two men on a motorcycle in front of the Red Bar at Garnett Street.
The police had said that Gonsalves was proceeding west along Garnett Street on his motorcycle, a black and white Honda XR motorcycle. One of the suspects, who was armed with a handgun, reportedly shot Gonsalves several times, causing him to fall to the ground. The bandit escaped on Gonsalves’ motorcycle. While one of Gonsalves’ workers had been his pillion rider at the time of the attack and he escaped unhurt, Gonsalves was pronounced dead at the scene by emergency medical technicians.
