A man who police say discharged rounds at them was yesterday charged and remanded for alleged illegal possession of a gun and ammunition.
Jeremiah Frank, 27, was before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court when he was remanded for illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition.
It is alleged that on March 28, at Pike Street, North Sophia, he had in his possession a 9mm pistol without being the holder of a firearm licence. It is also alleged that on the same date and at the same location, he had in his possession, eight live rounds of 9mm ammunition without being the holder of a firearm licence.
Following a not guilty plea on both counts, his attorney Dexter Smart told the court that Frank was not in possession of the articles mentioned in the charge when the police arrested him. He further told the court that the man lives at Lot 116 North Sophia, Georgetown.
However, the police prosecutor told the court that the man told the police that he lives at Lot 475 West Ruimveldt, Georgetown. The prosecutor then objected to bail after stating to the court that he is of the opinion that Frank is a flight risk. He explained that if granted bail, the police would not be able to find Frank because of the conflicting addresses.
The court also heard that on the day in question, officers who were in the vicinity, heard gunshots and subsequently went to the location. There they saw Frank, who allegedly opened fire on them. The police retaliated and Frank dropped the weapon and ran away in an easterly direction and onto Pike Street. The police retrieved the weapon and Frank was subsequently arrested.
The matter was adjourned until May 12.
