A busier second quarter for cycling events starts Sunday with a 60-mile road race.
After a quiet first quarter with just two open races due to COVID-19 restrictions, two races are carded for this month.
The first of which is scheduled to pedal off in three days after permission was granted by the COVID-19 Task Force on Monday. The green light to stage the event was confirmed by Racing Secretary of the Guyana Cycling Federation (GCF), Malcolm Sonaram yesterday.
Sonaram had stated in a previous interview that the the busier race schedule is geared towards readying the local wheelsmen for the National Cycling Championship and the Four-Stage Road Race next month along with the Caribbean Cycling Championships scheduled to be staged in Cuba from June 11.
“We are looking to take a formidable and prepared team to Cuba” Sonaram said yesterday.
On Sunday race, the riders will mount their saddles for a 60-mile event which will start from 07:00hrs on CARIFESTA Avenue. The peloton will proceed to Half Way Tree and return to the point of origin for the finish.
