Trevis Simon was unanimously elected president of the Central Essequibo Cricket Committee when the body held its Annual General Meeting and elections Tuesday evening at the Imam Bacchus Ground, Affiance.
The newly elected president told Stabroek Sport, “Well I just want to say that we will continue the work that we are doing at the central cricket committee level and we intend to extend that to the Essequibo board and also would definitely intend to work with anyone who is willing to see the cricket developed and moved forward in central and at the ECB [Essequibo Cricket Board] level and subsequently at the GCB [Guyana Cricket Board] also.”
Simon congratulated the new executives and expressed his enthusiasm for working with them and achieving a fruitful tenure with high expectations that can revive cricket in the Cinderella County of Essequibo.
Along with the new president, the outgoing president, Atto Christiani was elected vice-president while Rohan Boodram was re-elected secretary.
Sanjay Rajkumar and Chevraj Boodram were elected treasurer and assistant secretary/treasurer respectively while Kumar Dass will serve as the public relations officer.
Premnauth Persaud, Parmesh Persaud and Eickey Persaud were all elected committee members.
Rajkumar will serve as chairman of the fund raising committee while Simon heads the selection committee and Christiani the disciplinary committee. Parmesh Persaud is chairman of the competitions committee. All the positions were unopposed.
Seven clubs make up the Central Essequibo Cricket Committee including, Queenstown SC, Affiance SC, Imam Bacchus Bulls, Reliance Hustlers SC, Reliance SC, Cotton Field Strikers and Young Achievers.
Additionally, the new body will hit the ground running when they bowl off an under-19 40-over tournament on Saturday.
According to Simon, the tournament is organized by the Central Essequibo Cricket Committee and is an invitational tournament for teams in North and South Essequibo but limited to Essequibo players only. The tournament is expected to be played in a round-robin format.
