Legendary former West Indies captain Sir Clive Lloyd, has officially congratulated recently elected Guyana Cricket Board (GCB) President Bissoondyal Singh on his ascension to the top post.
This was disclosed by in official statement for the 1975 and 1979 International Cricket Council (ICC) World Cup winning skipper. According to Lloyd, “Congrats to president Bissoondyal [Singh] and the members of his team on winning the elections for the Guyana Cricket Board. I wish the board a very successful future. This victory must give rise to a sense of renewal. I do know most of the members of the elected board and I am sure they understand that the improved management of cricket in Guyana is a national expectation. Moreover, the opportunity presents itself for the new board to create the conditions for Guyana to become, as it once was, one of the main nurseries for West Indies cricket.”
Singh was elected to the helm of local cricket on March 29, unopposed, at Parc Rayne, Rahaman’s Park, Georgetown. The elections were held in accordance with the date set by Minister of Culture, Youth and Sport, Charles Ramson Jnr, with the Cricket Ombudsman Kamal Ramkarran functioning as the returning officer.
The other members of Singh’s executive are Hilbert Foster – Vice-President; Rabindranauth Saywack – Vice-President; Ronald Williams – Secretary; Davteerth Anandjit – Assistant Secretary; Dr Cecil Beharry – Assistant Treasurer; Claude Raphael – Public Relations Officer; Mohamed Baksh – Marketing Manager; Shaun Massiah – Chairman of Competitions Committee; Ramnaresh Sarwan – Chairman of Senior Selectors; and Andre Percival – Chairman of Junior Selectors.
Roger Harper and Anil Beharry are Technocrat members with voting rights at executive meetings. Treasurer Pretipaul Jaigobin unfortunately died in a vehicular accident on April 1, 2021 in Madhia, Region Eight.
“Finally, It would be remiss of me not to refer to the efficiency with which the young minister of Sports, Honourable Charles, ensured the return of due regularity in the administration of cricket by insisting and ensuring that elections were held at every level, including that of the GCB,” the statement concluded.
