The Guyana Police Force Marine Department’s Marine Vessel (MV) Baramani has been restored to full operation.

The Ministry of Home Affairs said on Friday that the vessel will be used to boost the marine security along the Demerara River and ensure safety and security on the waterways.

In a press release, the ministry said the vessel, which was not operable since 2018, was restored at the cost of $3.7 million.

Minister of Home Affairs Robeson Benn commissioned the restored vessel at the Ruimveldt Police Port in the presence of Deputy Commissioner of Police Operations Clifton Hicken and team.

The ministry said the enclosed vessel will help the Guyana Police Force to increase patrols on the waterways in varied weather conditions. “MV Baramani will be used to patrol the mouth of the Demerara River to Dora as well as both sides of the river, providing security in conjunction with other stakeholders,” it added.
