Dear Editor,
I would like to do a follow-up to a letter that was kindly published by your newspaper a few weeks ago titled `Illegal structures on Deobirana St affecting residents’ which noted that a home owner has illegally extended his property over the alleyway blocking off the drainage so he can build for himself, family and friends a bar in which they can gather late into the nights breaking curfew measures and skirting Covid-19 regulations and safety guidelines.
I also live in this area that is affected and in recent weeks we have had very heavy rainfall which resulted in several of the neighbouring homes being flooded. Two of my neighbours are now in the process of raising their yards and bottom flats to the tune of hundreds of thousands of dollars in a time when COVID-19 has caused a lot of us to be without a proper or stable income.
Since your newspaper published the letter, the home owner has gone ahead to tile the remaining part of the alleyway so that he can extend his entertainment area.
I am pleading with the Mayor & City Council to step in and do their duty and for the government or anyone that can render assistance including reporters from the three largest daily newspapers to look into this matter for us.
Yours faithfully,
(Name and address supplied)
