Star cyclist, Jamual John returned from the USA with a bang.

Following a two-month stint riding for Team Foundation in Miami, Florida, John brought his talents back to the 592 and dominated yesterday’s 60-mile road race, winning in wire-to-wire fashion.

Despite the windy conditions, the 23 year-old stopped the clock in a brisk 2:23.55 for the event which was staged from CARIFESTA Avenue to Half Way Tree and back.

He soloed to victory almost 30 seconds ahead of breakaway mate, the in-form Briton John who won the last event of the three-race season so far.

Christopher Griffith joined the two Johns (no relation) on the podium after edging Alex Mendes in a two-man sprint while Andrew Hicks and Deoraj Garbarran filled out the top six rewarding positions.

John was part of a 10-man break which had a two-minute lead on the peloton at the half way point.

From there he solo attacked but Briton also changed gears and eventually reconnected with his namesake just before the KK Gas Station.

From there, the duo rode as a team until Jamual with the fresher legs of the two attacked again at Ogle, increasing his lead with every powerful turn of his pedals.

With a clinical display of strength, aggression and race smarts, he went on to win the event, the first local one he has entered for the season.

John who finished second overall in the recent Rosewood  Series in Miami, credited his fitness for the dominant win.  He further stated that he felt strong going into yesterday’s race and hopes his form and fitness improves since the Independence Four-Stage road race is up next on the cycling calendar.

John, arguably the best local cyclist, will be gunning to ride off with the overall spoils of that race also.
